Objectives

The Steppe Oak Woods of Nagykőrös LIFE-Nature Project is aimed at preservation of Natura 2000 habitats of community importance (woods and grasslands), their development with nature conservation purposes which are joined by ecological examinations and educational programmes.

Our main objectives are the following:

  • Moderating the fragmentation within the project area, establishing a continuous wood consisting of indigenous species.
  • Through agreements and compensation we ensure that forestry management actions harming the precious habitats are halted for 90 years on 175 acres, thus providing a possibility for nature conservation management and natural regeneration processes.
  • Invasive species will be eradicated from 405 acres with a success rate of 99%.
  • With the exclusion of game by fences, relevant information will be gained whether the decrease of ground water level accounts alone for the elimination of the natural forest regeneration processes or the excessive game population has a devastative effect as well.
  • Informing 700.000-800.000 people through the radio, television, print outs and our website about the nature conservation values of the Natura 2000 site and about the efforts made in order to preserve them. We pay special attention to informing the locals.
  • We keep track of the results and make use of the gained experiences in the nature conservation management plan of the area.
